The town I was born in. Grootfontein is in central Namibia and is one of the three towns in the Otavi Triangle.
Loved my trip to Grootfontein, met up with my cousin and had a wonderful time!
Some pics on the way to Grootfontein.
The fruit is called a Makalani and grows on a palm tree. Fond memories eating them when I was young.
Dad's Previous Farm
I had the privilege to visit the farm my father previously owned - great memories! There was a story my father told us when we were young... He heard my twin sister and I laugh, then silence, then laughter again, then silence and decided to check up on us. We had a long wheat straw that we used to 'tickle' a horned adder (extremely poisonous) between its horns :-0. We tickled it and when it struck at us we laughed. He told us he almost died several deaths when he saw what we were doing. Most certainly our guardian angels worked overtime!
What was super special to me was that I saw a horned adder when I visited the farm after all these years. It is winter! All reptiles go into a state of brumation throughout winter, so I shouldn't have seen one, but I did and I felt a special connection to the story my father told us.
Meteorite Rest Camp
We stayed at the Meteorite Rest Camp in Grootfontein. The facilities were great and it was worth the visit.

My Primary School and Boarding School
Imagine a little Sanet playing in the park and walking in a neat row to the school :-D
The school is well-maintained, but unfortunately the boarding school is not a boarding school anymore and the play park is no longer safe for use.

Ouchy for the Chameleon's tail :-(. I think something disturbed his winter sleep, which is why he is on the move, quite angry if I look at his dark colour. In Afrikaans some call them 'Trapsuutjie', my best translation is 'tread softly' - they are so cute!, check out the video of him walking.
That meteorite is HUGE!! Imagine the impact when it landed. Nice walk down memory lane for you. The birdlife looks incredible. Loving your pics Sanet.
